Mr. Moody is a native and fifth-generation Polk County resident with strong family ties to the community. He was born as the New Years Baby in 1957 in Winter Haven, Florida. He earned his undergraduate degrees at Florida Southern College and Miami-Dade Community College. Mr. Moody’s undergraduate studies include degrees with a Bachelor of Science/Business and an Associate of Science/Arts. Mr. Moody’s undergraduate studies have proved to be the perfect education for his legal career, giving him the special knowledge required for the successful representation in personal injury and medical malpractice claims. In his understudy he completed courses in human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and chemistry. This biology and science education has provided Mr. Moody an advantage necessary to win for his clients in medical malpractice and personal injury cases.
Mr. Moody graduated and received his Juris Doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in 1985, with Dean's List honors. There he served as a United States Federal District Court Law Clerk and won the prestigious Finalist Advocate Award in the James O'Haley Federal Court Senior Trial Competitions. After graduating and returning home from law school, Mr. Moody began presenting cases to juries as an Assistant State Attorney. He then practiced law with a prominent law firm in Gainesville, Florida, primarily limiting his representation to helping those injured as a result of medical malpractice. He established his own law firm in 1991 and in 1993 founded the law firm of Pansler and Moody, P.A. Thereafter, he established Moody Law, P.A.
Mr. Moody is an avid aviator. His interest in flying has made aviation an integral part of his legal practice. Mr. Moody’s experience and training as an instrument pilot has provided him with an insight to aviation cases and crash investigation that a non-pilot cannot have. Mr. Moody’s aviation experience has given him rare insight, with the knowledge and understanding of the operations, mechanics, and physics of flight as well as a foundation and knowledge of aviation law. These foundations underlie basic understanding of accident investigations. As an active pilot, Mr. Moody has accumulated thousands of hours of flight time, much of which was compiled during flights to court, depositions, client/witness conferences, and continuing education courses. The ownership of a private plane allows Mr. Moody and his staff to travel across the country in an efficient and timely manner for clients and business matters. Mr. Moody has experience in representing aviation law matters, including aircraft crashes and all aspects of FAA regulations and airmen operations.
Mr. Moody is married and has two children. His wife, Nancy, is a Physician Assistant, who graduated from the Physician Assistant program at the University of Florida, School of Medicine. His daughter, Mallory, is also a graduate of the University of Florida and is currently attending South University in Tampa, Florida to become a Physician Assistant. His son, Drew, is a graduating high school senior who plans to attend the University of Florida. The Moody family is active in their church. Community involvement has always been part of Mr. Moody's life. Mr. Moody has a long history of active leadership in public/civic and professional organizations, serving as the past president of the Bartow Lions Club International and as a youth football coach, among other activities.

Personal injury lawyer Christopher D. Russo grew up in Lakeland, Florida and has strong ties to the local community in Polk County, Florida. He graduated from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida, where he won the Laidlaw, Inc. scholarship for academics. Upon graduating from high school, he attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he served as a cadet from 1999 to 2001. Mr. Russo was selected from a pool of more than 10,000 applicants for admission to the United States Air Force Academy. This military experience introduced Mr. Russo to aviation and ingrained a standard of excellence that he has followed ever since. In 2003, Mr. Russo earned a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he was also recognized as a Florida Bright Futures Scholar. Before law school, Mr. Russo worked with an Orlando law firm representing clients for criminal defense and family law matters. Mr. Russo graduated law school at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law in Gainesville, Florida, in 2006 with a Juris Doctor. While still in law school, he volunteered his services as a certified legal intern with the Virgil Hawkins Civil Clinic, which provided pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence in the Alachua County community. The certified legal intern program allows law students to actively represent clients in court proceedings and other matters under the supervision of an attorney. Mr. Russo was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2006 and began his career as an Assistant Public Defender for the Tenth Judicial Circuit in Bartow, Florida before becoming an accident and injury lawyer. As a public defender in Polk County, Christopher D. Russo was the lead attorney on his cases. He was a vigorous advocate for safeguarding the rights guaranteed to the people by the United States Constitution and Constitution of the State of Florida, including the right to a trial by a jury of peers. Mr. Russo represented hundreds of people in the Polk County community and pursued cases to trial where appropriate to protect the client's best interests and constitutional right to due process of law. Mr. Russo is married to his wife, Alejandra. She is a practicing pharmacist and a graduate of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida. She is a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens. Mr. Russo also has a son named Anthony.

Gerald B. Spurgin is a highly-experienced trial lawyer who has successfully tried numerous personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice cases in both state and federal courts during his 26 years of practice. Mr. Spurgin was born in DeLand, Florida. While attending public schools, he held various jobs and quickly learned the value of hard work at a young age. Mr. Spurgin put himself through college, graduate school, and law school by working odd jobs and earning scholarships. Mr. Spurgin received his B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia in 1979. He then completed and received his Masters Degree from Florida State University in 1981. While obtaining his Masters Degree in Tallahassee, Mr. Spurgin served as Administrator for Student Legal Affairs for Florida State University, served on staff in the Office of Governor (Governor Bob Graham), and served on staff in the Community Affairs Committee for the Florida House of Representatives. Mr. Spurgin was also an instructor at Stanley Kaplan Education Centers where he instructed students for the SAT, LSAT, and MCAT entrance examinations for colleges and universities, law schools, and medical schools. After graduating with his Masters Degree from Florida State University, Mr. Spurgin was honored by receiving a full, three-year academic Dean’s Scholarship to law school at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Spurgin continued to work for Stanley Kaplan Educational Centers while attending law school. Mr. Spurgin received his Juris Doctor degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1984, where he was one of the top graduates in his class. Based on his academic performance and distinction in law school, Mr. Spurgin clerked for the prestigious law firm, Holland & Knight, in Miami, Florida. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Spurgin practiced with Holland & Knight in Miami, Florida. Throughout his time with Holland & Knight, Mr. Spurgin handled complex cases involving personal injuries and wrongful death stemming from catastrophic accidents, products liability, and medical malpractice claims. While in the Miami Holland & Knight office, Mr. Spurgin worked on many high profile cases with some of the top trial lawyers in America. Desiring to move to the West Coast of Florida, Mr. Spurgin transferred to Holland & Knight’s Bradenton office, where he practiced for two years, eventually moving to Holland & Knight’s Tampa office. In 2001, Mr. Spurgin was asked to join Morgan & Morgan, where he practiced with an emphasis and concentration in helping clients injured by medical malpractice.
In 2006, Mr. Spurgin decided to leave Morgan & Morgan to help start a medical device company, and as a result, he is an owner of Ultroid Technologies, Inc. in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Spurgin is married with three children. He is a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, Florida.
Deborah Caswell is a legal secretary and assistant with primary duties that include greeting clients, answering the telephone and managing case files. Debbie is knowledgeable about every client’s case. Her compassion and dedication to our clients makes her a valuable asset to our team, and her enthusiasm is appreciated by her co-workers and clients alike. Debbie takes pride in her work and is very passionate about her role with the Moody Law team. She is quick to assist the attorneys in presenting their cases or in anything else they may need assistance with.
Debbie attended nursing school for two years before earning a paralegal certificate at Lakeland Business College in 1975. Debbie has worked for attorneys specializing in probate, personal injury and medical malpractice for eight years. Debbie took time off after giving birth to her two boys, Marcus and Christopher, who are now attending college. She volunteered in the classrooms and was very active in the Polk County Schools. Prior to her employment at Moody Law, Debbie worked part-time at an insurance firm, where she consulted with clients about policy coverage and liability issues.
Debbie was born in Dallas, Texas, and has lived in Florida most of her life. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing and boating off of the west coast of Florida with her husband, Mark. She runs every day with her chocolate Labrador retriever, Mocha.
Nicole Longstreet comes to our firm with approximately 9 years of experience as a paralegal. In 1995, Nicole earned her Associates Degree for Paralegal while studying at Florida Metropolitan University. She is currently enrolled at Polk Community College to pursue an additional degree in Nursing. Over the last 6 years, Nicole has focused primarily on litigation cases, which included automobile accidents, slip and falls, product liability, and wrongful death cases. We at Moody Law, P.A. are very proud and lucky to have Nicole with her vast litigation experience in personal injury law. Her primary duties are to assist with the firm’s litigation cases.
Nicole is a native and life long resident of Florida. She has resided in Polk County since 1986. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, outdoor activities, crafts, and sewing. Nicole has been married to her husband Timothy for over 16 years and they have three wonderful children, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Tiffany.
Fernanda Kretzer is a paralegal with a focus primarily on cases involving personal injury, automobile accidents, products liability, and slip and fall accidents. Fernanda is responsible for performing a number of investigative functions on personal injury cases by obtaining information about tortfeasors and potential defendants, details of damages suffered, and information from clients. She manages a revolving caseload of pre-suit demand and litigation files. Additionally, Fernanda prepares a number of litigation documents including the complaint, documents for service of process, discovery, witness and exhibit lists, and various motions for the attorneys in the office.
Fernanda was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and speaks the native language of Brazilian Portuguese. Fernanda attended Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida and graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, Washington. Fernanda and her husband, Deputy Aaron Kretzer of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, have one child together named Ivan. She enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoys scrapbooking as a hobby.
Kathy Mercer Gray is a Paralegal with close ties to the Polk County community. Kathy was born and raised in Winter Haven. Her parents, Joel and Charlotte Mercer, and four (4) brothers (Tony, Mike, Stevie and Greg) and their families, all live in Polk County today.
During her childhood, Kathy enjoyed riding her pony, Cinnamon, to the local Sertoma ball park to watch friends and classmates play baseball and football. She often gave them rides on her pony. Kathy was also a cheerleader and the “bat girl” for her youngest brother’s (Greg) baseball team at Sertoma. Kathy also enjoyed baking, camping, canoeing, and other activities with the church, school, boy scouts, and girl scouts. Her father was an active Boy Scout Master for many years and her mother volunteered as an Assistant Girl Scout leader.
Kathy started working in the legal field for a small general practice firm during her senior year at Winter Haven Senior High School. After graduating high school, Kathy continued to work for the firm while she earned her AS degree in legal secretarial from Polk Community College (“PCC”). She also became involved in the Polk County Legal Secretaries Association (PCLSA) where she chaired two events, “Bosses’ Night” and a “Christmas Party” and further benefited from basic and advanced legal educational classes under the instruction of very knowledgeable and experienced legal assistants in Polk County.
During college, Kathy met her husband, Donald Gray, Jr., from Auburndale, Florida. Upon completing their respective degrees at Polk Community College, Don and Kathy married and moved to Orlando while Don completed his Bachelor’s degree, Master degree, and his Ph.D. coursework in Electrical Engineering during his fellowship at the University of Central Florida. Meanwhile, Kathy earned her AS Paralegal and AA degrees at Valencia Community College while working full-time for lawyers in downtown Orlando and Winter Park.
Kathy learned the importance of insurance and various coverage options from her father and brothers, who were local insurance agents. Kathy built on her background, education and work experience under the guidance and leadership of many highly distinguished attorneys in Central Florida, including a past college professor who became a Circuit Judge in Seminole County; a products liability attorney profiled on 20/20 for Jeep rollovers; having worked as an assistant during the tenure of a former President of The Florida Bar; and working with other well respected Central Florida attorneys.
In 2006, Kathy earned her real estate sales associate license and 215 life, health and fixed annuity insurance license. These licenses and the continuing education requirements, continue to update and enhance Kathy’s diverse and unique legal and insurance backgrounds.
Kathy experienced a motor vehicle accident in 1992 when another driver failed to stop at a stop sign. Having gone through that experience, Kathy has first-hand knowledge of what her clients go through after an accident.
When Kathy is not working or spending time with her husband and family, she enjoys pampering and riding her black Tennessee Walking Horse, Dasher, at home.
Mendy Gunter serves as Office Administrator at Moody Law. Prior to employment at Moody Law, Mendy worked in the banking industry where she had 10 years of experience. Mendy is responsible for bookkeeping, management of personnel and office procedure, and management of a wide variety of day-to-day administrative tasks for the office.
Mendy was born and raised in Ft. Meade, thus making her the fourth generation of her family from Polk County. She graduated from Ft. Meade High School and later attended Polk Community College where she obtained her AA Degree. Mendy has been involved in various groups throughout the years associated with both Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and Bartow Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband, Lance, reside in Bartow and have two boys named Blake and Brantley. Mendy enjoys spending time with her children and husband and enjoys various outdoor activities such as gardening, running and boating.
Beverly L. Godboldt (“Bev”) is retired after 43 years in the legal profession. Bev was the office administrator and senior paralegal for four years. She now works as a consultant and fills in when needed for Moody Law.
Bev was born and raised in Jamestown, New York and received her Associates Degree in Legal Secretarial Science from Bryant & Stratton College, Buffalo, New York in 1967. After working for a law firm in Jamestown for four years, she moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1972, where she worked as a paralegal/legal assistant for 22 years for James D. Murray and 12 years for Daniel D. Moody before retiring in 2005. When Mr. Moody formed Moody Law, she jumped at the chance to come out of retirement to accept the position in his firm as office administrator. Bev is a former member of the Polk County Legal Secretaries Association, Florida Association of Legal Secretaries and the National Association of Legal Secretaries. She was very active in the local chapter (PCLSA) for many years serving two terms as President together with holding various other offices and chairmanships over the years and conducting various seminars.
Bev has been married to her husband Bill for over thirty years and has two children, Michael and Andy. Michael and his wife Sue live in Erie, PA. Bev and Bill have two granddaughters, Maggie and Ansley. Maggie and Ansley are the pride and joy of her grandparents and Bev is racking up the frequent flyer miles between Tampa and Erie. Andy lives in Winter Haven. Her other pride and joy is, Rufus, her miniature dachshund.
