GM announced that it is recalling $1.3 million vehicles in an effort to correct a defective part.  Over 1,100 complaints were received about failures in the power steering pumps in Chevrolet Cobalts and three models of Pontiac vehicles in North America.  The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into 14 automobile crashes and one injury.  The vehicles can still be steered in the event of a failure, however, steering becomes more difficult in the event of a failure.  The steering defect typically occurs in vehicle where the manufacturer's warranty has already expired.  Notwithstanding, this recalls appears to be a safety recall that GM is required to do to satisfy federal regulators.
