Orange County Fire Rescue paramedic Chad Lowrey was trying to transport the victim of a motorcycle crash in Oakland on State Road 50 when he was struck by Winter Garden resident Ada Santos in her 2005 Hyundai.  The paramedic was standing on the north shoulder after the earlier crash when Santos failed to see a fire truck in "fend-off position" blocking at least one lane of traffic in an attempt to shield emergency workers.  Santos swerved to avoid the truck, then overcorrected, struck the motorcycle parked on the right, and then struck the paramedic.  The victim went airborne and landed behind the Hyundai's rear bumper.  Santos's Hyundai thereafter struck a fence approximately 135 feet away from the roadway.  Lowrey sustained fractures to his neck, back, and ribs.  He also suffered a collapsed lung along with other internal injuries.  Lowrey was hospitalized for 13 days.
