A south Florida motorist was injured by a small steel wheel that likely fell off another vehicle while driving on the Florida Turnpike.  The steel wheel likely fell off a larger vehicle such as a trailer or a garbage truck.  56-year-old John Stanzione, of Boynton Beach, Florida, suffered injuries to his eyes and arms by broken glass as the steel wheel crashed through his windshield.  Stanzione was taken to a south Florida hospital for medical treatment.

This bizarre incident is without doubt caused by another unidentified vehicle.  In terms used by lawyers and insurance company, that vehicle is often called a "phantom vehicle."  It is unlikely that Mr. Stanzione will ever find the vehicle that the wheel fell off of.  Assuming that Mr. Stanzione has uninsured motorist coverage (UM), he has a claim against his own insurance carrier.  Mr. Stanzione also has a no-fault/PIP claim against his own insurance carrier.  The PIP carrier should pay up to $10,000 of his medical bills that were the result of use, maintenance, or operation of the motor vehicle.  There are a number of hoops that one must jump through in order to make claims against an insurance carrier.  For advice on how to make a PIP claim or a UM claim, please contact a personal injury or car accident lawyer for advice on how to make those claims.  If you or a loved one was injured in the greater Central Florida area, please contact a personal injury or car accident lawyer to discuss the facts and circumstances of your case.  A consultation with a personal injury lawyer is free.
