A car accident near the intersection of Apopka Vineland Road and Silver Star Road in Orange County, Florida has result in six people being taken to the hospital.  The accident happened Sunday night at 8:39 p.m. when a motorcycle and a car collided head-on.  The motorcycle driver and a rider were taken to Orlando Regional Healthcare Center.  Two adults and two children in the car were sent to other hospitals.  An infant in a car seat was uninjured.  Names have not been released.

This is accident likely resulted from the negligence of one driver or the other.  While the Orlando Sentinel article says that the motorcycle crossed over and struck the car head-on, such facts may or may not have been verified.  This accident could have happened the other way with the car at fault.  More investigation needs to be done in order to find out what really happened.  Notwithstanding, assuming that the Sentinel is correct, the people in the car have claims against the motorcycle driver.  While motorcycles are dangerous instrumentalities in the State of Florida and both drivers and owners are legally liable, Florida does not require motorcycles to carry insurance.  The result of this situation would be that the people in the car must have their own uninsured/underinsured motorists coverage (UM) for this type of accident.  UM coverage pays when there is no coverage or the coverage provided by the at-fault driver/owner is not enough to satisfy all damages.  If you have questions or concerns about a car accident, please contact a car accident or personal injury lawyer for a free consultation.
