St. Lucie County, Florida.  A school bus accident caused the death of a student when a semi truck struck the school bus while it was making a left turn.  It was reported that 14 other students were injured in the collision and there were apparently 30 students on board the bus.  Three injured students were airlifted to local hospitals.  The remainder were taken by ambulance to trauma centers.

This accident, like virtually all others, is the result of the negligence of one or both drivers.  There is a possibility that the truck was running a red light and caused the accident.  There is also the possibility that the school should not have been making the left turn and should have waited for traffic to pass.  There is not enough information reported to make a determination of fault.  However, assuming that the school bus is at fault for the accident, then the students' claims are limited by Florida law under a limited waiver of sovereign immunity.  On the other hand, assuming that the truck is at fault, many trucking companies carry at least $1 million in insurance.  At a minimum, truckers are required by Florida law to carry at least $300,000 in coverage.  If you or a loved one has suffered an injury in a car accident, please contact a central Florida personal injury or car accident lawyer for free advice about the facts and circumstances of your case.
