A semi-truck struck a 6-year-old boy on a bicycle on Landstar Boulevard in Orlando, Florida.  This collision was reported in the Orlando Sentinel as Jaden Vasquez Vallejo being struck by 47-year-old Raiford Reynolds of Winter Haven, Florida.  Reynolds claimed that he never saw the boy and heard a thump.  The accident happened in front of Jaden's two friends at approximately 8:10 a.m.  The truck was making a right hand turn onto Landstar Boulevard from SR 417 at the time of the collision. Jaden's brother told police that they were very methodical in their daily routine of crossing the road on foot and riding on the sidewalk.  A witness for the trucking company was immediately behind Reynolds and called 911.

This is a very tragic accident in that a young person lost his life life in a way that he should not have but also possibly in the presence of his brother and friends.  When a loved one is negligently injured and killed in front of a family member, the family member may have a cause of action for negligent infliction of emotional distress if they can meet the impact rule.  This cause of action for negligent infliction of emotional distress claim is a separate direct claim that is separate and apart from the wrongful death of Jaden.  In situations like these, the lawyer that you hire and the advice that you get can make a significant difference in the outcome of the claims.  While money will not bring a person back and will never even begin to put a dent in the suffering that is occurring with this family, it is the only form of compensation that the law permits.  There are critical things that a truck accident attorney should do early on in a case such as this.  If you or a loved one have been injured in an accident, please contact a Central Florida personal injury or truck accident attorney for a free consultation.
