Lake Wales Car Accident Kills Two
This car accident involved a Chevrolet going southbound on Buck Moore Road when it tried to pass another car that was turning and struck a Suzuki SUV driven by Maryan Scott. The crash happened just after 2:00 p.m. on Friday as another vehicle slowed down to turn onto Sunset Drive. William Scott, Sr., 87, and his son, William Scott, Jr., 61, were killed in the accident. The Chevrolet was driven by John Shydlowski, 82. Shydlowski was taken in fair condition to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Maryan Scott was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center.
This car accident clearly involves negligence on the part of Shydlowski for making a pass without adequate room to execute it. It is truly a shame that Mrs. Scott, the survivor, lost her husband and his son in the accident. There is a likelihood that Mr. Shydlowski did not have very much insurance coverage. It is my hope for the Scott family that they had some uninsured/underinsured motorist's coverage (UM) of their own and that Mrs. Scott had health insurance. In the event that Mrs. Scott makes a financial recovery for her injuries and has health insurance, then Mrs. Scott will be required to re-pay something to her health insurance company.
