A truck accident normally, especially if we're dealing with large 18- wheelers or semi tractor-trailer trucks, because of their very nature and the size of those trucks, when a truck - 18-wheeler or semi tractor-trailer truck - collides with a motor vehicle, such as a family vehicle or a car, there is going to be significant damage. For that reason, trucking companies are required to follow certain rules and regulations that, otherwise, a normal motor vehicle user is not required to do. When a person is in a motor vehicle and is hit by a very large truck, common sense tells you that the person is likely to be seriously injured. When these types of injuries from commercial trucks occur and the motorist is not at fault, or the truck driver or trucking company is negligent for one reason or another - in other words, they acted careless in the operation of the truck - then the client can bring a claim against not only the truck driver, but normally the trucking company. There are special rules that attach, special laws that relate to trucking accidents, simply because of the magnitude of the difference and the dangerous instrumentality that these trucks pose to the motorists traveling on the highway. Commercial truck drivers have to be licensed. They have to go through various educational courses and training, and they have to follow certain rules and procedures put in place by not only the state law, but also the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act.
